Born October 1956 Milwaukee, WI
I was raised with music as part of my curriculum all through my school years. After many years of music lessons for all the kids our mother told us if we pursued careers in music we would end up ditch diggers..... Enlisted as a US Navy Seabee in 1974. Trained as an electrician. I was a natural leader and was assigned the squad leader position of Mobile Seabee Battalion 3.
I learned to play guitar overseas on a deserted island in the middle of the Indian Ocean. I became a singer/songwriter while I started work as a sound engineer with a local company. I eventually decided to move to the technical side as I liked eating and paying my bills more than I liked being a legend in my own mind.
I spent the next seven years behind a monitor console in a Milwaukee club mixing the likes of new up and coming artists such as The Police, Aerosmith, Patty Smyth, Dire Straits, REM, The Boomtown Rats, The Talking Heads, The Plasmatics, The Ramones, Irish phenoms U2, and many artists who today have grown into huge draws. Touring started in 1980 with Eddie Rabbitt during his run of fame for four years. Various production company gigs until 1990. After a four year sabbatical in the 1990’s I moved to Tour Management and mixing FOH. Continuing an association with production companies as a Project Manager, Account Executive
for many productions, including Milwaukee Summerfest, has brought me across many diverse platforms of shows and artists.
I started my real mixing career in the early 80's. Luckily I have had the opportunity to mix some huge stars of today, even if when I worked with them, they were traveling in a station wagon, or van, or a Plymouth Valiant. The early tour years were spent with mainly one act for three years, Eddie Rabbitt. Then I went production company for quite some time before returning to touring in the 90's.
After returning to touring, during the famine portion of touring I spent my time in between tours doing production company work, and venue operations for concert, corporate events. political events and rallies, Harley Davidson rallies, Super Bowls, USO shows in Guantanmo Bay for MWR, society banquets, hotel A/V work, and corporate entertainment production. and even mixed for presidents and nominees. I have toured with artists such as diverse as Mannheim Steamroller, Brit Floyd, Dispatch, Soul Asylum, Everclear, The BoDeans, Marvel Universe Live, David Copperfield, 3 Doors Down, Travis Tritt, and many others, referenced on my resume page.
I am a mixer. I mix sound. I am a very musical mixer. Having studied music theory and composition at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music as well as played in bands for many years. I understand the makeup and dynamics of a song and how to bring out the dynamics with an understanding of how the artists wrote the song and how it presents live. It's been my passion since the first time I let 2k take off and had to harness it. I primarily prefer to mix FOH, but I am also fluent in monitors and IEM, and RF coordination. I am fluent in most all equipment.
My work station preferences are Digico, AVID, Yamaha, Midas consoles, Waves. Speaker compliments EAW Anya, L'Acoustics, d&b, Martin speaker components. I am certified and/or trained in AVID, Soundvision, L'Acoustics K1, V-DOSC, K2, Kudo and LA Network.
I have also become qualified and excel at production and tour management. I utilize the Master Tour Database for all tour and production information that virtually puts all tour information, production information, logistics, itinerary, and scheduling information at any tour members' disposal on their smartphone. The role I enjoy and excel at is production or tour manager and FOH Engineer. I take great care in each and every mix I do and I am espcially cognizant of the nuances of a good clean artistic and dynamic mix.
I have been very lucky to be able to tour with fantastic artists, and balance my personal life with time at home to find a balance that contributes to an affable and approachable demeanor. I have also completed two distinguished leadership development programs which have been a huge benefit to me. Including but not limited to dealing with the constant changes in the industry, and furthermore the dynamic of road personalities in less than ideal conditions. I keep a cool and calm demeanor in those "oh by the way moments that event execution brings to all of us in the industry. I am a natural leader and have an excellent ability to adapt to many personal dynamics and achieve harmony and cooperation.
My hobbies include scuba diving, motorcycles, photography, writing, personal growth, networking and mentoring.
